EPSILON CHAPTER & PARTNERSHIP FOR BOYS

 

Epsilon Chapter and Partnership for Boys, Inc. are having a high school essay contest for college-bound male high school seniors in New York City.

The prize is a $4000 college scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY:

Male senior in a New York City high school
A New York City resident
Bound for college in Fall 2019

ESSAY QUESTION:

Since 2016, there has been a lot of discussion around football players kneeling during the National Anthem.
Many people, including the President of the United States, feel that players who kneel are unpatriotic. Other people feel those players are exercising free speech, which is in the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
1. Which do you believe? Why?
2. What are some ways you, as a high school senior, can demonstrate (or already have demonstrated) patriotism?
3. What are some ways you, as a high school senior, can take (or already have taken) a stand for something or against something?

RULES:

The typewritten essay must be 750 – 1000 words, double-spaced, and must have a title page that includes your name, high school, and date of submission.
It will be judged on its readability, the defense and development of your opinion, your grammar, and your adherence to the word requirement.

You must submit three items:

  • An essay answering the question above (Word or PDF)
  • A recent photograph (GIF or JPEG)
  • A one-page document with your Biographical Information (Word or PDF)
